At Dalits’ Feet: Archival Resources of Counteraction

Abstract: Dalits’ bodies are archives of structural violence and discrimination based on caste. Through a process‐based notion of the archive, and close attention to Dalit counterforces, the current artistic–anthropological project addresses potentials for increased epistemic and social justice. “…The final method that proved effective was the use of my own photographic prints in dialogue with my collaborators within discursive exhibition spaces. In this effort, I used curation as a continuation of experimental practice within anthropology (Elhaik and Marcus 2020; see also Basu 2007; Laine 2020).
