Asynchronous Representation and Processing of Nonstationary Signals : A Time-Frequency Framework

Abstract: N onstationarity relates to the variation over time of the statistics of a signal. Therefore, signals from practical applications that are realizations of nonstationary processes are difficult to represent and to process. In this article, we provide a comprehensive discussion of the asynchronous representation and processing of nonstationary signals using a time-frequency framework. Power consumption and type of processing imposed by the size of the devices in many applications motivate the use of asynchronous… Show more

“…The finer delay estimates can be obtained from τp through an iterative neighbourhood search detailed in Section IV-C. Let this fine estimate be denoted by τp . Then, the path delay matrix estimates B( τp ) can be obtained as shown in (7). Subsequently, the spatial-frequency localization matrix Hp for the p-th path can be extracted from the decoupled channel matrix in (5) as follows:…”

“…In ETS schemes, a sample is taken when a certain pre-set event occurs in the signal. Choosing events skillfully can provide samples for good signal reconstruction (for certain specific class of signals [7][8][9]), or certain information estimation (example, see [10]). In this paper, we show the benefit of specific signal samples captured using ETS for analysis of oscillatory non-stationary signals.…”
