Asymptotic Performance Analysis of the MUSIC Algorithm for Direction-of-Arrival Estimation

Abstract: We consider the performance analysis of the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm for multiple incident signals when the uniform linear array (ULA) is adopted for estimation of the azimuth of each incident signal. We derive closed-form expression of the estimation error for each incident signal. After some approximations, we derive closed-form expression of the mean square error (MSE) for each incident signal. In the MUSIC algorithm, the eigenvectors of covariance matrix are used for calculation of … Show more

“…Another contribution of the proposed scheme is that the azimuth estimation error in (15) and the elevation estimation error in (16) can be obtained without exhaustive search of interferometer cost function in (2). In Monte-Carlo simulation, two-dimensional search with respect to θ and ψ of the cost function in (3) should be performed, which is twodimensional nonlinear optimization.…”

“…The MUSIC and ESPRIT algorithms are the most widely used for AoA calculation [27], [28], but have some limitations. For example, performance degradation in the lack of line-of-sight, and the assumption of ideal orthogonality between the noise and sample subspaces, which does not hold in real world conditions (due to multi-path effects) [29].…”

“…Some researchers have designed a water quality monitoring system, which is also based on WSN technology. The pH value, pollution level, temperature, and turbidity of water can be monitored, so that the environmental protection department can provide realtime guidance for industries such as industry, plantation, and aquaculture that depend on local water quality conditions [21][22][23].…”
