Associations between specific IgE sensitization to 26 respiratory allergen molecules and HLA class II alleles in the EGEA cohort

Abstract: Background: Allergy, the most frequent immune disorder affecting 30% of the world's population, is the consequence of immunoglobin E (IgE) sensitization to allergens. Among the genetic factors suspected to be involved in allergy, the HLA class-II genomic region is a strong candidate. Objective: To assess the association between HLA class-II alleles and specific IgE (sIgE) sensitization to a large number of respiratory allergen molecules. Methods:The analysis relied on 927 participants of the EGEA cohort, includ… Show more

“…8,9 Gheerbrant et al reported a significant association between HLA-class II alleles and the allergens Ole e 1, Phl p 2, Phl p 5, and Pla l 1. 10 The non-antigen immunological response depends on the gene polymorphisms involved in innate receptors and signalling pathways. 11 Dendritic cells are directly activated by allergens or by epithelial cells that secrete alarmins, leading to Th2 polarization.…”

“…Cross reactivity between different allergens "production of IgE in response to one allergen, and then bind to similar proteins in another allergens" have been noticed by assessing the correlation coefficient "r value" (18) . R value was high within this study between allergens of plant origin "peanuts, potatoes, carrots, apples, soya bean, wheat flour and pollens" with significant p value.…”

“… 48 We observed 2 cis and 638 trans ‐eQTLs which have shown association with the expression of the DEGs in our data. Novel genes that were targets of these regulatory variants include the following: IL‐1B, HLA‐DQB1 , 49 , 50 , 51 MAPK3 , MUC‐21 and TUG1 . Many of these genes are known candidates for allergic or tonsillar diseases revealed through genome‐wide association studies (GWAS).…”
