Associations between SOX2 and miR-200b expression with the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients with glioma

Abstract: Abstract. The aim of the present study was to investigate the associations between microRNA (miR)-200b and sex determining region Y-box 2 (SOX2) expression with gender, age, clinical staging and pathological staging in 123 patients with glioma. The results revealed higher miR-200b expression levels in the glioma tissue than in the normal brain tissues, and a reduction in miR-200b expression with increasing pathological grading of the gliomas. Immunohistochemistry revealed a 53.7% gross expression rate of SOX2 … Show more

“…Compared to previous studies [ 10 , 13 , 28 , 67 , 68 , 77 , 78 ], co-staining for SOX2, CD133 and Nestin across a single section also provided a few unexpected observations. In particular, the average number of cells positive for both SOX2 and CD133 was lower in grade II/III meningiomas, while cells positive for SOX2 and negative CD133 increased in frequency.…”

“…Sathyan et al found that glioblastoma patients with low miR-21/high SOX2 expression had longer overall survival than those with high miR-21/low SOX2 (15.3 vs. 16.7 months, p = 0.0088), which was in accordance with our results. While Wang et al reported that expression of SOX2 predicted poor prognosis (22). Twenty four HGG cases with both primary tumor samples and recurrent samples were analyzed in the present study.…”
