Association of Toll-Like Receptor 3 and Toll-Like Receptor 9 Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms with Hepatitis C Virus Infection and Hepatic Fibrosis in Egyptian Patients

Abstract: Abstract. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are recognized as fundamental contributors to the immune system function against infections. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection represents a global health problem especially in Egypt having the highest HCV prevalence worldwide where HCV infection is a continuing epidemic.

“…To the best of our knowledge, these polymorphisms of TLR7 and 9 have not been studied to date with dengue virus infection though TLR9 rs187084 & rs5743836 heterozygous genotype have been found to be significantly associated with neonatal severe hepatitis, neonatal Human Cytomegalovirus infection, malaria, pulmonary tuberculosis and autoimmune diseases [ 3 ]. Similarly, TLR7 rs179008 & rs5743836 are associated with cancer, malaria, HCV, and tuberculosis [ 6 ].…”
