Association of the MLXIPL/TBL2 rs17145738 SNP and serum lipid levels in the Guangxi Mulao and Han populations

Abstract: BackgroundThe rs17145738 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) near MLX interacting protein-like/transducin (beta)-like 2 (MLXIPL/TBL2) loci is associated with serum lipid levels, but the results are inconsistent in diverse ethnic/racial groups. The current study was to investigate the association of MLXIPL/TBL2 rs17145738 SNP and several environmental factors with serum lipid profiles in the Guangxi Mulao and Han populations.MethodsA total of 649 subjects of Mulao nationality and 712 participants of Han nation… Show more

“…It is speculated that the influence of PON1 rs662 on lipid metabolism may be limited, similar to other lipid regulating genes such as phosphodiesterase 3A ( PDE3A ) rs7134375 [37], rs2954029 of the Tribbles homolog 1 (TRIB1) gene [38] and MLXIPL/TBL2 rs17145738 [39]. Although the effect of a sole gene can be small, multiple genes can produce larger effects.…”

“…Methods for the detection of serum HDL-C, LDL-C, ApoA1, TC, ApoB, TG levels were referred to our previous study [19]. Serum lipid levels were tested using an autoanalyzer (Type 7170A; Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo, Japan) in the Clinical Science Experiment Center of the First Affiliated Hospital, Guangxi Medical University [20,21].…”

“…The levels of serum TG (0.56-1.70 mmol/L), ApoB (0.80-1.05 g/L), TC (3.10-5.17 mmol/L), LDL-C (2.70-3.10 mmol/L), ApoA1 (1.20-1.60 g/L), HDL-C (1.16-1.42 mmol/L), and the ApoA1/ApoB ratio (1.00-2.50) were defined as normal values at our Clinical Science Experiment Center. The diagnostic criteria of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, obesity, normal weight, and overweight were referred to previous studies [19][20][21][22][23][24]. Somebody who has been previously diagnosed with diabetes or people with 2 h postprandial plasma glucose ≥11.1 mmol/L or a fasting plasma glucose ≥7.0 mmol/L were defined as diabetic patients [25].…”

“…The rs17145738 has been implicated in TG variations in normolipidemic individuals as well as dyslipidaemia (3,13,(47)(48)(49)(50). The encoded LAMC1 protein is thought to mediate the attachment, migration and organization of cells into tissue during embryonic development as a result of its interaction with other cellular matrix components.…”
