Association of Short‐Chain Fatty Acids with Gut Microbiota and Lipid Metabolism in Mice with Diarrhea Induced by High‐Fat Diet in a Fatigued State

Bo Qiao,
Jing Liu,
Xinxin Peng
et al.

Abstract: ScopePreliminary research finds that a high‐fat diet (HFD) in a fatigued state triggers diarrhea, but the exact mechanism has not been clarified. To address concerns about the pathogenesis of diarrhea, the study evaluates the composition and metabolomics of the gut microbiota. Methods and resultsThe study uses the multiple platform apparatus device to induce fatigue in mice, combined with intragastric administration of lard‐caused diarrhea. Subsequently, the characteristics and interaction relationship of gut m… Show more

“…Structure and functional changes in the commensal gut microbiota are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of many diseases ( Parker et al, 2022 ; Qiao et al, 2023 ). Several studies have elucidated that the bidirectional communication between the eye diseases and the gastrointestinal microbiota, indicating an accurate characterization of the gut microbiome is of critical importance for maintaining ocular health.…”

“…Disruption of the microbiota structure can reduce the production of beneficial metabolites and increase the accumulation of harmful metabolites. In diarrhea mice induced by a high-fat diet under fatigue, there is a reduction in the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) ( Qiao et al, 2023 ). Similarly, in diabetic kidney disease patients with imbalanced intestinal microbiota, the production of SCFAs decreases, and the levels of harmful metabolites such as TMAO increase ( Tian et al, 2023 ).…”

“…Understanding SMF involves recognizing it as a symptom rather than a standalone condition. Alongside treating the root cause, patients may benefit from general strategies to reduce fatigue, such as regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, stress management techniques, and pacing daily activities to avoid overexertion ( 17 ). Effectively managing SMF requires a comprehensive, individualized approach that targets the specific underlying cause while also incorporating general strategies to improve overall energy levels and well-being.…”
