Association of prevalent Leptospira species with different rodents of three northern provinces in Iran using microscopic agglutination test

Abstract: Leptospirosis as a zoonotic disease is caused by Leptospira bacteria. Transmission occurs by contact with contaminated biological fluids of the infected animals. Rodents are major sources of infection for humans or other animals. The disease is distributed mainly in tropical regions with rainfall like northern part of Iran. The aim of this study was to find association of prevalent Leptospira species with different rodents of three Northern Provinces in Iran using microscopic agglutination test (MAT). “…Leptospirosis has a broad geographical distribution but deployed in tropical and subtropical areas with high fall rain. In Iran, the areas along the Caspian Sea have the highest reported prevalence, but there also are case reports in some other parts of Iran [5,6]. Most common serovars in these areas that cause infection in humans include serovars Icterohaemorrhagiae, and Canicola, in cattle's serovars Hardjo-bovis, Conicola, and Grippotyphosa, in canines serovars Canicola, and Icterohaemorrhagiae, and in rodents serovars Icterohaemorrhagiae, and Grippotyphosa respectively [1,6,7].…”
