“…In this study, rare allele carriage (CT and TT genotypes) was unexpectedly higher in healthy subjects compared to those who had CP (40.0% versus 18.6%, respectively). In the present study, observation of a significantly lower T allele frequency and T allele carriage in the GAgP group than in the healthy group was in accordance with this previous study 43 . Moreover, logistic regression analysis adjusted for smoking, age, and gender revealed a decreased susceptibility to GAgP in T allele carrier subjects.…”

“…The T allele of the MMP‐9 −1562 gene was significantly higher in severe CP compared to the moderate form of CP (18.8% versus 10.5%, respectively). Conversely, a significantly different genotype distribution was found between subjects with CP and healthy controls regarding the MMP‐9 −1562 C/T polymorphism in a Turkish population 43 . In this study, rare allele carriage (CT and TT genotypes) was unexpectedly higher in healthy subjects compared to those who had CP (40.0% versus 18.6%, respectively).…”

“…The diagnosis of severe generalized CP was made according to the severity of periodontal disease on the basis of the amount of CAL and according to the extent of disease sites on the basis of the number of sites with PD ≥4 mm involved. Patients exhibiting CAL ≥5 mm and >30% of the sites with PD ≥4 mm were considered having severe generalized CP 21 . Patients who were diagnosed with severe generalized CP, who were reported to be in good general health, and who agreed to participate were included in the study.…”

“…The promoter region of MMP-9 gene harbours a functional C-to-T single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at position -1562 (rs3918242) which could affect its expression and activity (Zhang et al 1999, Blankenberg et al 2003. Several studies had been performed to explore the relationships between MMP-9 -1562C>T and periodontal diseases, but only provided conflicting results (Chen et al 2007, de Souza et al 2005, Gurkan et al 2007, Holla et al 2006, Isaza-Guz-ma´n et al 2011, Keles et al 2006), which might be derived mainly from relatively small size of each published studies or genetic heterogeneous. Therefore, in this study, we did a meta-analysis to investigate the role of MMP-9 -1562C>T in the development of periodontitis through a more robust and powerful method.…”
