“…In the present study, analysis of HLA class II alleles and haplotypes frequency in a sample of Iranian population not only confirms previous reports from the country (Sayad et al ., ; Rabbani et al ., ) but also is in line with several results observed in other Caucasians including Turkish (Saruhan‐Direskeneli et al ., ; Keskin et al ., ), Italian (Petrone et al ., ), German (Donner et al ., ) and Macedonian (Ilonen et al ., ) and even some of non‐Caucasian populations such as Asians (Park & Eisenbarth, ; Bugawan et al ., ) and Tunisians (Fekih Mrissa et al ., ). “…The protective alleles in this study consisted of DRB1*07:01, *11:01, *13:01, *14:01, *15 and DQB1*06:01, *06:02 and *06:03 alleles which is supported by previous limited number of observations in Iran [13, 14].However, few differences in distribution pattern of HLA class II alleles were observed among these Iranian samples which the conceivable explanation for that could be ethnic variations among Iranians.
