“…Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was determined by using the method proposed by Cakmak and Marschner (1992), and Cakmak (1994), based on the reduction of NBT (nitro blue tetrazolium chloride) by O 2 -under light. All the solutions were added into the reaction medium: first, 0.1 mM of Na-EDTA containing 50 mM (pH: 7.6) phosphate (P) buffer, then, the enzyme extract (25 to 100 µl) followed by 0.5 ml of 50 mM Na 2 CO 3 (pH of 10.2), 0.5 ml of 12 mM of L-methionine, 0.5 ml of 75 µm of p-nitro blue tetrazolium chloride (NBT) and Accepted paper 10 µm of riboflavin were each added into the medium so that the final volume of the medium was 5 ml.…”

“…Glutathione reductase (GR) activity was measured with the method proposed by Cakmak and Marschner (1992), and Cakmak (1994), based on the oxidation of NADPH at 340 nm (E = 6.2 mM cm −1 ). By following the method, the final volume of the reaction medium was adjusted to 1 ml by adding 0.1 mM of EDTA containing a 50-mM phosphor buffer (pH of 7.6), 0.1 ml of 0.5 mM of oxidized glutathione (GSSG), 0.1 ml of 0.12 mM of NADPH and enzyme extract into the medium, and then the NADPH oxidation was measured at 340 nm.…”

“…The expression of Zn deficiency symptoms on the leaves of cereals has been found to be related to the activity of the enzyme copper (Cu)/Zn superoxide dismutase (Cu/ZnSOD) (Cakmak et al 1997(Cakmak et al , 1998Hacisalihoglu et al 2003). High levels of Cu/ZnSOD help protect leaf tissue against oxidative damage (Cakmak 2000) and thereby contribute to Zn efficiency (Cakmak et al 1995;Hacisalihoglu et al 2003). Wu et al (1999) located the chloroplast Cu/ZnSOD genes on the long arms of the group 7 chromosomes, but the exact location of the Cu/ZnSOD gene is not known.…”

“…It was reported that Zn treatments provided 5-550% increases in grain yields of wheat in different regions of Central Anatolia Region of Turkey (Cakmak et al, 1995). Besides, Kalaycı et al (1993) reported 50-60% increases in wheat and barley grain yields with soil Zn treatments.…”
