“…Some of them imply that periodontal tissues are target tissues of sex hormone 12,13 , referring to the clinical manifestations during periods of hormonal changes. These clinical observations confirm the prevalence of gingival disease with fluctuating levels of sex hormones, even in conditions when oral hygiene remains unchanged 14 . Because the period of starting and duration of puberty shows individual variations, all clinical, microbiological and hormonal parameters should be in line with chronological age and the parameters that describe pubertal maturation.…”

“…Destructive periodontal disease is consistently associated with negative impacts on OHRQoL 11 , 12 . Considering the association between gingival bleeding (GB) and OHRQoL, only modest or insignificant associations have been found in individuals aged <14 years 13 , 14 .…”

“…However, the studies cited used either PMPE or self‐reports to assess GB. On the other hand, a recent study used FME for 12‐year‐old adolescents and found association between GB and OHRQoL, 12 which raises the question as to whether PMPE protocols are suitable for estimation of this association in adolescents.…”
