Association of CDKN1B gene polymorphisms with susceptibility to breast cancer: a meta-analysis

Abstract: A number of case–control studies have been conducted to investigate the association of CDKN1B gene polymorphisms with breast cancer. However, these studies reported conflicting results. The aim of our study was to quantitatively summarize the association of CDKN1B gene polymorphisms with breast cancer. Systemic searches of the PubMed, Excerpta Medica Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database databases were performed, with the last report up to Oct 2012. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95 % confidence interva… Show more

“…Within the 1‐kb region surrounding CDKN1B , six SNPs resulted to be nominal significant ( P ≤ 0.05). Interestingly, the T allele of rs34330, which maps to the CDKN1B promoter region (‐79 C/T), has been reported to be associated with other tumours including breast 26, endometrial 27, lung 28 and thyroid cancer and with low gene expression of CDKN1B 29. Together, these data led us to exclude other SNPs from further analyses, and to focus our attention on rs34330 ( P = 0.015; OR = 1.15).…”

“…Previously, two meta-analyses investigated the association of CDKN1B gene polymorphisms (including rs34330 and rs2066827) and CDKN1B rs2066827 polymorphism with susceptibility to breast cancer, respectively3031. The previous meta-analyses found that p27 gene rs2066827 polymorphism was not associated with breast cancer susceptibility.…”

“…The previous meta-analyses found that p27 gene rs2066827 polymorphism was not associated with breast cancer susceptibility. One meta-analysis30 comprehensively evaluated the association between polymorphisms of p27 gene and breast cancer susceptibility, and they found that p27 gene rs34330 polymorphism might be associated with breast cancer susceptibility. In this previous meta-analysis30, the included studies with rs34330 polymorphism were four case-control studies, which were also included in our meta-analysis.…”
