This study aimed to provide updated evidence on the status of female breast cancer and cancer treatment facilities in Asia, with a special focus on Nepal. This review used search phrases that included, breast neoplasm or cancer, health status, epidemiology, breast cancer survivors, cancer care facilities, Asia, Nepal. Researchers examined databases from January 2011 to December 2020 (PubMed, PMC, Google Scholar, and the reference lists of included papers). Studies of any design and reviews, were included in the study, except for qualitative studies. The study findings are presented in a narrative synthesis format using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews. An initial search resulted in 974 papers, and 896 were reviewed after being checked for duplication using the Zotero software. Accordingly, utilizing the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 188 publications were selected, and after review of titles and abstracts, an additional 98 papers were removed for different reasons. Finally, the study looked at 90 female breast cancer papers. Results showed that the number of cases of breast cancer is growing all around the world, including in Asia and Nepal. Age, early menarche, late menopause, nulliparity, positive family history, excessive fat consumption, alcohol, and smoking are all frequent risk factors for breast cancer found in Asian women. Breast self-examination, clinical breast examination, and mammography screening are common methods for detecting breast carcinoma. Chemotherapy, radiation, and modified mastectomy are commonly used options for treatment. The number of breast cancer survivors is growing throughout the world, indicating better clinical care. There is a paucity of survival data in many Asian countries, including Nepal. There is also a scarcity of health workforce specialized in cancer care and treatment, as well as a few health facilities that are available to treat cancer cases in many Asian countries, including Nepal.

The upward trend in breast cancer globally and in India has become a matter of great concern. Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women globally. The objective of the authors’ study was to explore the various risk factors of breast cancer in among women in an Indian context. A search was performed using the search engine Pubmed during years 2005-2011 using key words risk factor and breast cancer and India. They searched criteria found 16 final analyzable articles. Results of the review showed high mortality due to late stage breast cancer diagnosis as women usually present at an advanced stage. The results showed that the predominant reason was because of lack of awareness about the risk factors of breast cancer and non-existence of breast cancer screening programs. Financial and social reasons were other factors that resulted in delay in seeking advice for this problem resulting in its delayed diagnosis. Educational awareness might be an effective tool for modifying lifestyles and thereby reducing breast cancer risks.

The superior mesenteric artery is a branch of the aortic artery that supplies blood to the small and some parts of the large intestine. Any obstruction in blood flow and reperfusion causes tissue damage in the intestine. This study aimed to determine the rate of fat peroxidation and tissue protein as an indicator of tissue degradation after ischemia and reperfusion following induction of superior mesenteric artery occlusion in the intestine and to evaluate the protective effect of melatonin as a free radical scavenger and antioxidants in rats. In this study, 36 male Wistar-Albino rats weighing between 80-120 g were equally divided into six groups and received different melatonin doses (10, 20, and 30 mg/kg) intramuscularly. In this regard, Group 1 was the control group, Group 2 was the Sham group (underwent surgery to dissect the upper mesenteric artery and injected the same volume of solvent), Group 3 was Ischemia-reperfusion (IR), Group 4 was IR with melatonin at a dose of 10 mg/kg, Group 5 was IR with melatonin at a dose of 20 mg/kg, and Group 6 was IR with melatonin at a dose of 30 mg/kg. The results showed that the level of tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) was significantly lower in groups 4, 5, and 6 than in group 3 (P <0.05). Tissue protein levels were significantly higher in group 4 than in group 3 (P <0.001). Tissue protein levels in groups 5 and 6 did not significantly differ from group 3 (P = 0.191). Overall, this study showed that melatonin at a dose of 10 mg/kg has an antioxidant effect preventing induced damage due to superior mesenteric artery occlusion.
