Association of apolipoprotein A5 genetic polymorphisms with steroid-induced osteonecrosis of femoral head in a Chinese Han population

Abstract: BackgroundPrevious studies suggested that apolipoprotein A5 (ApoA5) genetic polymorphisms (SNPs) may result in lipid metabolism disorders. Therefore, genetic polymorphisms in ApoA5 may be associated with the occurrence of osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH).MethodsWe designed a case–control study including 223 patients of osteonecrosis and 201 age- and sex-matched control subjects to analyze the association between ApoA5 polymorphisms and susceptibility of steroid-induced ONFH. We utilized polymerase chain re… Show more

“…Apolipoprotein A and B are 2 key proteins for lipid metabolism which are involved in the onset of ONFH. [ 18 , 19 ] What is more, PON1 protein combined with HDL in serum forms an octamer that is a vital component of apolipoprotein A1. Genetic variants of PON1 may influence white matter lesions (WML).…”

“…DNA is the basic carrier of human genetic information whose characteristics cannot be changed along with either time or space. Gene polymorphism is an important reason for differences in individual susceptibility to diseases, and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) stands for a most common form [24][25][26][27][28].…”

“…APOA is correlated with steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head ( 28 ). The expression of APOA4 has been reported to be lower in the serum of patients with steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head ( 29 ).…”
