“…In this study, the FTO gene of the SNP rs9939609 was analyzed in the normal-weight group and obese Iraqi patients, and the relationship between FTO gene polymorphism with some biochemical markers. The role of the FTO gene in obesity and predicting type II diabetes mellitus was also investigated [15].…”

“…Genomic DNA was extracted from whole-blood specimens using Blood DNA Prep Plus, following the manufacturer’s protocol (A&A Biotechnology, Gdynia, Poland). FTO gene polymorphisms were assessed using the tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system PCR (T-ARMS-PCR) technique, employing custom-designed oligonucleotide sequences for FTO rs1558902 ( Supplementary Materials Table S2 ) and previously described primers for FTO rs9939609 [ 25 ]. The PCR conditions were as follows: initial denaturation for 5 min at 94 °C; 34 cycles of 50 s at 94 °C, annealing step for 60 s at 61 °C, and 60 s at 72 °C; and final elongation at 72 °C for 5 min.…”

“…Overall, while the research on FTO polymorphism and obesity in the Bangladeshi population is limited, the available studies suggest a possible association between the FTO gene and obesity in this population 17 . However, Kar et al did not find any association between FTO polymorphism and obesity in Bangladeshi adults 18 . Extensive research with larger sample sizes, as well as more biochemical and behavioral parameter, is needed to better understand about the relationship between FTO polymorphism and obesity in the Bangladeshi population.…”
