Association of 2238T>C Polymorphism of the Atrial Natriuretic Peptide Gene With Coronary Artery Disease in Afro-Caribbeans With Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract: The ANP rs5065 (2238T>C) C allele seems to exert a protective effect against CAD in T2D patients of African descent. The relevance of ANP polymorphisms for CAD should be determined in different populations.

“…Some researchers found that the minor allele G was associated with higher risk of acute coronary syndrome [11] and greater severities of CAD [12], while other studies reported that the major allele A was more prevalent in CAD patients [13] and was associated with a higher risk of hypertension, more adverse ventricular remodeling and a higher rate of hospital readmission [7]. The discrepancy could be explained by diverse patient populations and different outcomes defining CAD.…”

“…These variables have already been used in the previous similar studies. [35][36][37][38] Statistically analysis was performed with SPSS software version 19. There are many methods which deals with probabilities of disturbance.…”

“…These polymorphisms were chosen because of different data from the literature: significant associations between rs1799883 and MetS [ 14 ], association of rs1501299 with the concomitant presence of MetS and hypertension in a Taiwanese population [ 15 ], and association of rs5065 with diabetic complications and cardiovascular disease [ 12 , 13 ]. In addition, previous studies in relation with cardiometabolic risk were conducted for rs1501299 and rs5065 in our Afro-Caribbean diabetic population with and without history of CAD [ 16 , 17 ], and in descendants of Indian migrants living in Guadeloupe for rs1799883 [ 18 ].…”
