Association between triglyceride glucose index and sleep disorders: results from the NHANES 2005–2008

Abstract: Background To determine the association between sleep disorders and Triglyceride glucose index. Methods A cross-sectional analysis of the 2005 to 2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was performed. The 2005 to 2008 NHANES national household survey for adults ≥ 20 years was examined for the sleep disorders.TyG index: ln [triglyceride (mg/ dL) × fasting blood glucose (mg/dL)/2].Multivariable logistic and linear regression mo… Show more

“… 21 , 22 As per our awareness, a recent epidemiological study has investigated the association between TyG index and HI. 14 The findings of this study demonstrated a positive correlation between the TyG index and the risk of HI, indicating a linear association between these two variables. The difference between our research and theirs is that, when defining and calculating HL, conductive and mixed HL were excluded, focusing solely on SNHL for correlation analysis with the TyG index.…”

“…The results of this study are consistent with those of a study conducted in Korea showing that an elevated TyG index is associated with an increased risk of developing OSA [ 39 ]. Nevertheless, a separate cross-sectional study suggested that the TyG index may not have a significant association with OSA [ 24 ]. This discrepancy could be attributed to the sample size; specifically, a larger sample size enhances the statistical power of a study, thus increasing its ability to accurately detect effects.…”

“…Patients with OSA exhibit significantly greater TyG index levels than healthy controls [ 23 ]. The TyG index may be an independent risk factor for OSA [ 24 ].…”

“…The TyG index is proven to be a valuable and reliable IR marker able to assess the CV risk, particularly heart failure, in different populations, from people with diabetes to those with coronary artery diseases [ 19 ]. Indeed, a number of studies assessed the association between TyG and OSA, demonstrating that high TyG levels are related to an increased risk of sleep disorders [ 20 ]. Despite these premises, there is still a need for determination and consolidation of the possible usage of the TyG index in clinical practice.…”
