Association between triglyceride glucose index and carotid artery plaque in different glucose metabolic states in patients with coronary heart disease: a RCSCD-TCM study in China

Abstract: Background The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index serves as a surrogate indicator of insulin resistance. However, there is limited evidence on the association between the TyG index and carotid artery plaque (CAP) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). Methods The 10,535 CHD patients were divided according to TyG index quartiles (Q1: TyG index < 8.52; Q2: 8.52 ≤ TyG index < 8.93; Q3: 8.93 ≤ TyG index ≤ 9.40; Q4: TyG index > 9.40). The… Show more

“…Thus, an elevated TyG index level may accelerate these processes and contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases. Finally, the TyG index has been reported to be significantly associated with subclinical cardiovascular diseases, such as arterial stiffness [ 42 , 43 ], carotid atherosclerosis [ 44 , 45 ], and coronary artery calcification [ 46 ]. Therefore, an increase in the TyG index over time may lead to the process of cardiovascular diseases and mortality.…”

“…However, no studies have investigated the association between thyroid hormone sensitivity and carotid plaque in patients with CHD. Although previous studies have investigated the prevalence of carotid plaque according to sex, age, and smoking and drinking status ( 13 , 14 ), the results were inconsistent. Owing to these inconsistent results, the association between carotid plaque and sex, age, and smoking and drinking status remains controversial.…”
