Association between the instrumented timed up and go test and cognitive function, fear of falling and quality of life in community dwelling people with dementia

Abstract: Dementia is a highly prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterised by changes in behaviour and cognition 1. The prevalence and incidence of dementia has been reported at approximately 15% and 3% respectively 2 and it has been reported to affect approximately 47 million people worldwide 1. People with dementia (PWD) show symptoms ranging from cognitive, social and motor impairment, all of which can significant affect quality of life (QoL) 3,4. PWD have been shown to have greater falls risk compared to thos… Show more

“…The device provides data pertaining to linear accelerations and rotational velocities which was exported to MatLab where a bespoke algorithm determines the features of importance from the TUG. Details regarding the algorithm have been reported previously [ 30 ] and excellent reliability of the device has been determined [ 31 ]. Outcomes (listed in Table 2 ) relating to the sit-to-stand phase, the two walking phases and two turning phases are retrieved through the bespoke algorithm previously described [ 30 ].…”

“…Next, 857 papers were removed based on article duplication and title screening, and an additional 1014 were excluded based on abstract screening. Following the removal of these manuscripts, 121 publications were subjected to more detailed full-text analysis based on inclusion/exclusion criteria, of which a total of 6 final papers [ 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ] were identified to be included in this systematic review.…”
