Association between the G-protein β3 subunit C825T polymorphism with essential hypertension: a meta-analysis in Han Chinese population

Abstract: We aimed to evaluate the contribution of the G-protein β3 subunit C825T (GNB3-C825T) polymorphism to essential hypertension (EH) in Han Chinese population by performing meta-analysis. A meta-analysis was performed in 12 case-control genetic association studies including 3,020 hypertension patients and 2,790 controls from MEDLINE (PubMed) and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure platforms. The STATA 10.0 software was used in analysis. Overall, there was no significant association between the GNB3-C825T p… Show more

“…Besides, the funnel plot was asymmetric in the recessive model for p  = 0.043, so publication bias must also be considered. In addition, our results were consistent with those reported in previous studies [45], [46], but were slightly less discrepant with others [47], which might have resulted from the greater number of studies included in our meta-analysis. However, there were only two studies concerning an African population, thus a larger sample size is needed to further address the relationship between the GNB3 C825T polymorphism and essential hypertension in Africans.…”

“…Considering the evidence as a whole, our findings are in line with recent meta-analyses on the association of individual GNB3 markers and hypertension that used summary data [32,33]. Recent large-scale association studies also suggest no evidence for an association between GNB3 polymorphisms either with systolic and diastolic blood pressures as continuous variables or essential hypertension as a dichotomous phenotype [34].…”

“…Another study performed in the Henan Province of China reported that the levels of hypertension awareness, treatment, and control are low, which indicates that necessary actions such as prevention, detection, and treatment are necessary to prevent the situation from worsening [ 19 ]. Some studies had found polymorphism of the specific gene was associated with cardiovascular risk factors and may contribute to susceptibility to cardiovascular disease [ 20 ], while some other studies found there was no significant association identified between GNB3-C825T polymorphism and EH in Han Chinese population [ 21 ]. Chinese Government has initiated widespread reform [ 22 ], reinforce health promotion in older adults and improve health services in rural communities [ 23 ].…”
