Association between PRDM16, MEF2D, TRPM8, LRP1 gene polymorphisms and migraine susceptibility in the She ethnic population in China

Abstract: Background:The prevalence of migraines in the She population, a minority in China, is significantly higher than that in Han Chinese and other Asian populations. Two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been found to be associated with migraine susceptibility in the She population.Purpose: This study investigated four SNPs, identified in genome-wide association studies, within migraine-susceptible loci in Han Chinese for their association with migraine susceptibility in the She population. Methods: Two-hu… Show more

“…However, they reported that the SNP is in strong linkage disequilibrium with rs11172113 affects the transcription factor binding site ( Ghosh et al, 2013 ). The same results have been reported from She ethnic and Han-Chinese populations where they were unable to find any association of this SNP with migraine susceptibility ( An et al, 2013 , Fu et al, 2019 ).…”

“…Similarly, it is known that TRPM8 channels are implicated in inflammatory pain and migraine 7 . The thesis that migraine locus lies in the peripheral nervous system 8 , and the identification of TRPM8 as a candidate susceptibility gene for migraine 9,10 , points to the modulation of TRPM8 channels as a plausible mechanism for the treatment of this pathology 11 .…”

“…A large-scale female-based study which included 3 003 migraine patients and 18 108 normal controls unraveled that rs7577262/ TRPM8 was associated with migraine, but showed little selectivity to any characteristics of migraine [19] . However, a rs7577262/TRPM8 correlation study conducted in Fujian province of China obtained an opposite result [20] . Fujian province is located in the southeast coastal area of China and has a typical subtropical climate with an annual average temperature of about 26℃.…”
