Association between Lung Fluid Levels Estimated by Remote Dielectric Sensing Values and Invasive Hemodynamic Measurements

Abstract: Background: Remote dielectric sensing (ReDS™) is an electromagnetic-based technology used to noninvasively measure lung fluid levels. The association between ReDS values and invasively measured hemodynamics, particularly among those with small physics, remains unknown. Methods: Consecutive patients with chronic heart failure who were admitted to our institute and underwent invasive right heart catheterization as well as simultaneous ReDS measurement at clinically stable conditions between September and Novembe… Show more

“…In previous studies, the ReDS value had a robust collinearity with the lung fluid amount quantified by highresolution computed tomography, whereas there was a moderate correlation between ReDS values and pulmonary artery wedge pressure. 4,5,7) Overall, despite relatively incremental intra-cardiac pressure, our patients seem to have less advanced pulmonary volume overload.…”

“…Assessment of pulmonary congestion can be challenging. The ReDS system can quantify the degree of pulmonary congestion with reasonable accuracy when compared to other modalities, including high-resolution computed tomography [ 5 ], right heart catheterization [ 4 ], and lung ultrasound [ 11 ].…”

“…The remote dielectric sensing (ReDS TM , Sensible Medical Innovations Ltd., Netanya, Israel) system is a non-invasive electro-magnetic technology that quantifies the degree of pulmonary congestion within one minute of application and without needing a high level of technical expertise [ 3 ]. ReDS values, whose normal range is suggested between 20% and 35%, have been shown to have a moderate correlation (i.e., approximate r value of 0.6) with other modalities, including chest-computed tomography and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure [ 4 , 5 , 6 ].…”

“…The remote dielectric sensing (ReDS TM , Sensible Medical Innovations Ltd., Netanya, Israel) system is a novel electromagnetic-based method to quantify lung fluid levels with robust inter-rater and intra-rater reliability ( Figure 1 ) [ 4 , 5 , 6 ]. According to the previous studies, ReDS values had an acceptable correlation with pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, measured by right heart catheterization and lung fluid amounts, calculated by high-resolution computed tomography in patients with chronic heart failure [ 7 , 8 ].…”
