Association between glutathione S‐transferase π polymorphisms and survival in patients with advanced nonsmall cell lung carcinoma

Abstract: Deafferentation of the auditory nerve from loss of sensory cells is associated with degeneration of nerve fibers and spiral ganglion neurons (SGN). SGN survival following deafferentation can be enhanced by application of neurotrophic factors (NTF), and NTF can induce the regrowth of SGN peripheral processes. Cochlear prostheses could provide targets for regrowth of afferent peripheral processes, enhancing neural integration of the implant, decreasing stimulation thresholds, and increasing specificity of stimul… Show more

“…Polymorphisms of GSTP1 have been associated with platinum-based chemotherapy efficacy in colon, 22 lung [23][24][25] and gastric cancer, 26 revealing their clinical potential as a biomarker to predict platinum-related chemosensitivity. In our study, we observed an association of GSTP1 rs1695 GA þ GG genotypes with tumor sizes >5 cm, but an association with overall survival was not observed.…”

“…Previous studies have also suggested the importance of the allelic status of GSTP1 for platinum metabolism. It is showed that at codon 105 the variants of the enzymes with valine (Val) have higher activity against cisplatin and carboplatin than enzymes with isoleucine (Ile), and hence polymorphic Ile105Val of GSTP1 is linked to the sensitivity of cancer cells to platinum (Booton et al, 2006;Lu et al, 2006;Peklak-Scott et al, 2008).…”

“…Several previous studies have reported associations between the GSTM1, GSTT1, and GSTP1 IIe105Val gene polymorphisms and patient outcomes, but the results are inconclusive (Lu et al, 2006;Booton et al, 2006;Kalikaki et al, 2009;Ada et al, 2010;Yang and Xian, 2014;Liu et al, 2015). Booton et al (2006) reported that the GSTP1 IIe105Val polymorphism was correlated with the response and survival of NSCLC patients.…”
