Introduction: About 10 million people have low back pain (LBP) disability in Brazil, and several therapies are used to treat this condition, such as kinesiotherapy, manual therapy (MT) and photobiomodulation-PBM. Although studies have investigated the use of these methods in LBP, research seeking to evaluate the efficacy of the association between techniques is still needed. Objective: To evaluate the activation of the muscles lumbar region with the influence of PBM and MT associated with kinesiotherapy in the treatment of LBP. Methods: Twenty individuals with chronic LBP were randomly divided into two groups. The first group (MT) received vertebral mobilization associated with a kinesiotherapy exercise program, while the second group (830nm-PBM) received PBM associated with the exercise program, twice a week for 8 weeks. It was performed an evaluation of pain perceived by the visual analogic scale (VAS), lumbar disability by the Oswestry questionnaire, muscle strength by strain gauge and activation through surface electromyography, before and after the treatment protocol. EMG data analysis was performed by MatLab® software. The ANOVA two-way test was used (degree of significance p≤0.05), and the effects size by Hedge test. Results: Considering pain, the two groups presented a significant result (p<0.05). In muscle activation only the multifidus obtained different during side bridge (p<0.05) when compared intragroups. But none of the variables were different when evaluating intergroups. Conclusion: Both MT and PBM associated with kinesiotherapy for 8 weeks are effective in reducing pain, improving motor control and stability of the lumbar spine in patients with chronic LBP.

Métodos: Pesquisa exploratória, transversal e quantitativa realizada em 2017, com 130 mulheres de 30 a 60 anos de idade e sem histórico de cirurgia na coluna vertebral. Aplicou-se o Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire (ODQ) para a avaliação da incapacidade relacionada à coluna lombar. Quantificou-se a dor através da escala visual analógica (EVA) e a força muscular lombar com dinamometria lombar (Takei®). Resultados: Das 130 participantes, 97,7% (n=127) apresentaram incapacidade funcional mínima relacionada à coluna lombar (ODQ). Em relação à força, 16,9% (n=10) apresentaram valores normais e 83,1% (n=120) abaixo dos valores de referência, apresentando fraqueza muscular. Quanto à intensidade da dor, 47,7% (n=67) das participantes apresentaram intensidade leve, 45,5% (n=59) apresentaram intensidade moderada e 6,9% (n=9), intensa. Conclusão: O programa possui características que contribuem para manter controlada a intensidade dolorosa, que vem se mostrando baixa, bem como a incapacidade funcional significativa dos indivíduos. A fraqueza muscular na região lombar, apresentada pelas participantes sem associação com a funcionalidade, e a dor podem ser um fator que perpetua os quadros de lombalgia crônica. Os achados sugerem a necessidade de revisão da prescrição terapêutica dos exercícios do programa realizado. (ODQ). Introduction: About 84% of the population have had some low back symptom during their lifetime; where 23% of cases become chronic pain. It is observed that in around 85% of cases of chronic low back pain, there is no specific cause or diagnosis, where it is referred to as chronic nonspecific low back pain. Given its disabling potential, the comprehensive assessment, attitudes and beliefs of the physiotherapist in clinical management become essential to the prognosis. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between sociodemographic/socioeducational and work profile and the attitudes and beliefs of physiotherapists in the management of chronic nonspecific low back pain treatment. Methods: This was a cross-sectional quantitative study. For data collection, two questionnaires were used, one referring to the sociodemographic/socioeducational profile information and the other referring to attitudes and beliefs determined by the Pain Attitudes and Beliefs Scale for Physiotherapists. Data were analyzed using the BioEstat 5.0 program using descriptive statistics, t-test and Pearson correlation (p < 0.05). Results: Fifty-seven physical therapists were analyzed, where most were women (61.4%), had specialization (56.2%), worked in private clinics (63.2%) and used specific methods in the management of chronic nonspecific low back pain (84.2%). Biomedical belief was predominant (70.2%) and showed a significant relationship with age (p = 0.0006). Conclusion: The biomedical model is still predominantly used, which is related to the age of the professionals surveyed.
