Show more

“…Furthermore, if assessed with more sensitive technology, including echocardiography, Holter, and magnetic resonance with late gadolinium enhancement, a small number of indeterminate-phase patients may be reclassified as having CCC due to the presence of areas of fibrosis with wall motion abnormalities [ 25 26 27 28 29 30 ]. Therefore, an unknown proportion of individuals classified as being in the indeterminate phase may indeed develop arrhythmias or other cardiovascular complications if challenged with a cytokine storm such as that triggered by COVID-19.…”

“…The principal disorders reported are atrial, ventricular extrasystoles, intraventricular and/or AV conduction disturbances and primary ST-T wave changes [ 5 ]. Classically, arrhythmias have been linked to autonomic dysfunction [ 6 ], anti-adrenergic and anti-cholinergic autoantibodies [ 7 ] and to wall motion abnormalities [ 8 ]. Although, Chagas patients may present with arrhythmias and sudden death in the absence of ventricular dysfunction (known as the arrhythmogenic form) [ 9 ], the causes associated with nonstructural arrhythmias are poorly understood.…”
