Assessment techniques, database design and software facilities for thermodynamics and diffusion

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to give a set of recommendations to producers of assessed thermodynamic data, who may be involved in either the critical evaluation of limited chemical systems or the creation and dissemination of larger thermodynamic databases. Also, it is hoped that reviewers and editors of scientific publications in this field will find some of the information useful. Good practice in the assessment process is essential, particularly as datasets from many different sources may be combined toge… Show more

“…The extrapolated ternary phase diagram was optimized using the experimental results with the PARROT optimizer [6,36,37] included in the Thermo-Calc software [38]. The ternary solubility was taken into account for those phases that showed noticeable amount of solubility and where enough experimental evidence was available.…”

“…Moreover, crucial data concerning phase formation in the alloy system may be calculated or predicted. Specifically for magnesium alloys this approach has been demonstrated as a powerful tool in focused alloy design and process optimization [9][10][11].…”

“…These issues also concern extension, maintenance and updating of the database [10]. It has been shown [11] that the key issue quality assurance involves addressing four quite distinct questions concerning the thermodynamic descriptions. It should be verified if these are correct, reasonable, accurate, and safe.…”

“…Examples of currently used identifiers for chemicals include the Chemical Abstracts Registry (CAS) number [112] and International Chemical Identifier (InChI) [113]. An example for defining phase names is given by Schmid-Fetzer et al [114]. One possibility for a flexible data format is the use of various extensible markup languages.…”
