Assessment on the research trend of low-carbon energy technology investment: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract: Based on databases of Science Citation Index Expanded (1981-present) and Social Sciences Citation Index (2002-present), this paper applies the bibliometric method to analyze the scientific publications of low-carbon energy technology investment. By characterizing the basic information of the publications, we found: the historical development process is clearly divided into two stages; the field of low-carbon energy technology investment 1 has entered a stage of rapid development; the strength of developed cou… Show more

“…Bibliometric analysis has been widely used to study the state of knowledge in the area of energy and environmental policy. Examples of bibliometric analysis in this space include the study of carbon markets (Du et al 2015), carbon taxes (Zhang et al 2016), climate policy modeling (Wei et al 2015), low-carbon energy technology investment (Yu et al 2016), climate change research (Haunschild et al 2016) and energy management strategies for hybrid electric vehicles (Zhang et al 2015).…”

“…Bibliometrics is an important field of information science and has been widely applied to many fields (e.g. Rafols et al ., ; Fahimnia et al ., ; Lin et al ., ; Yu et al ., ; Metse et al ., ). Despite the importance of the top five economics journals and that of bibliometric research, no bibliometric analysis of the latest publications in the top five economics journals has been published in the Google Scholar or SSCI databases as of May 2017 (the search terms [top journal bibliometric] were used in the topic field).…”

“…With the aid of the bibliometrics, the review can present the future research trend, research hotspots, scientific collaborations, etc. At present, bibliometrics is widely used in the review of low-carbon electricity transition [18], low-carbon technology investment [19], and CCS technology evaluation [20,21]. Wang, et al [18] examined the characteristics of the literature on decarbonization in the power system from 1990 to 2016, and pointed out that low-carbon electricity transition has been highly concerned.…”

“…Wang, et al [18] examined the characteristics of the literature on decarbonization in the power system from 1990 to 2016, and pointed out that low-carbon electricity transition has been highly concerned. Based on the frequency analysis of keywords related to low-carbon technology investment, Yu, et al [19] found that renewable energy has received much attention, and CCS technology is an emerging low-carbon technology field receiving increasing attention. Karimi and Khalilpour [20] pointed out that research on CCS seems to be closely following the trend of international negotiations on mitigating climate change.…”
