Assessment of vehicle emissions projections in Madrid (Spain) from 2004 to 2012 considering several control strategies

Abstract: Road transport is a major source of air pollutant emissions in European cities. Moreover, vehicle exhaust emissions have been the cause of much concern about the effects of urban air pollution on human health. Local authorities need to develop strategies to control vehicular emissions through technological and socioeconomical measures. For this reason, an efficiency assessment of possible future measures to reduce air pollution is required for future traffic planning, regulatory and fiscal initiatives. This pa… Show more

“…Lumbreras et al [5] developed a methodology with a software tool called EmiTrans to quantify the effect of policies and measures in emission reductions from road transport. This methodology was focused on exhaust emission calculation for a vehicle fleet preparing Excel spreadsheets to be used by Copert 4 (Gkatzoflias et al [6]).…”

“…Indeed, an estimated 10 % of the global pollution is generated by road vehicles which are furthermore accountable for 20 % of the European anthropogenic CO 2 emissions [4], while local impact of various air pollutants generated by road traffic, such as CO, NOx SO 2 , and particulate matter with a diameter of 10 micrometres or less (PM 10 ), has been documented [5][6][7].…”
