Assessment of the susceptibility status of Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) populations to pyriproxyfen and malathion in a national wide monitoring of insecticide resistance in Brazil, 2017-2018.

Abstract: Background: Chemical control using malathion has been applied in Brazil, since 1985. To obtain chemical control effectiveness, it is essential to monitor vector susceptibility to insecticides. This study aimed to describe bioassay standardizations and determine the susceptibility profile of Ae. aegypti populations to malathion and pyriproxyfen, used on a national scale in Brazil between 2017 and 2018, and discuss the observed result impacts in arbovirus control. Methods: The diagnostic-doses (DD) of pyriproxyfe… Show more

“…aegypti were utterly susceptible to malathion, even though its use in RJ officially started nine years ago. The Brazilian national insecticide resistance program tested a population from our study, Cgy, and reported it as susceptible in 2018 [78]. Other populations from different cities around the State, the capital, Volta Redonda, and Angra dos Reis, were resistant to malathion.…”

“…#Aedesaegypti, #SanitaryRisk, #VectorDiseases #Transdisci-plinaryResearch several years, the chemical control of adult specimens presented operational difficulties, and nowadays, it is known that treatments with chemical pesticides became inefficient because of the resistance development among Ae. aegypti populations [12][13][14]. These facts have led to a revaluation of strategies focussed elimination of hatcheries or sites for developing of the vector [15,16].…”
