Assessment of the Odour Impact Range of a Selected Agricultural Processing Plant

Abstract: Within the research, on the premises of an agricultural plant, the odour concentration was measured, and the odour emission was determined. The obtained values allowed us to analyse the odour distribution using the Polish reference mathematical model for four different scenarios, including (1) all identified emission sources, i.e., point and surface: scenarios 1 and 2, and (2) only point sources, scenario 3 and 4. The values of the comparative level and the frequency of exceedances in scenarios 1 and 3 were ba… Show more

“…The c od during January 2022 was below the detection threshold for the whole aerobic stabilization area. The points located near the green waste storage area (18,26) show trends similar to the aerobic stabilization area, which is in the direct vicinity. During December 2021, the c od was below the detection threshold for both points.…”

“…Field olfactometry was used in the measurements. Some other sources show that field olfactometry can be used in odor quality assessment related to animal feeding and husbandry [16,17] or as a tool to identify odor sources at agricultural plant [18]. The evaluation of odors from widely understood waste management is one of the most important areas of the field olfactometry application.…”

“…An example of software that includes macroscale emission calculation models is the Operat FB package. It is used to model the dispersion of pollutants in ambient air from point, line, and surface sources [68]. It has a "car" module, which makes it possible to calculate the emissions from car traffic on roads.…”

“…Therefore, the application of dynamic olfactometry requires combination with dispersion modelling [49,50]. These mathematical models merge olfactometry results with meteorological and geographical data and calculate how the emitted odor is transported through the air to the people living in the neighborhood of a particular odor source [51,52].…”
