Assessment of the impact of seasonal patterns climatic conditions on spawning events of the white bream Blicca bjoerkna (Linnaeus, 1758) in astronomical and biological time

Abstract: This paper describes spawning events of the white bream Blicca bjoerkna (Linnaeus, 1758)in astronomical and biological time depending on seasonal patterns of climatic conditions. The research was conducted in the "Dnipro-Orilskiy" Nature Reserve (Ukraine) during the years 1997-2015 in four habitat types. The timing of the spawning event (start, end) was evaluated using astronomical time (number of days from January 1 each year), with correction for the lunar and the semilunar cycle, and using biological time (… Show more

“…The reserve is located on the upper area of the Dnipro reservoir, which has suffered considerable anthropogenic transformation (Sharamok et al 2017). This has created the need for comprehensive ichthyological research to determine the direction and depth of the processes that occur in populations of fish influenced by the actions of the aggregate anthropogenic factors (Bondarev et al 2018). Research on the fish fauna of the reserve enables us not only to identify the composition of the fish fauna and the character of its distribution in the water bodies but also to reveal the direction of the processes that are taking place in the ecosystem in general (Bondarev et al 2018).…”

“…Environmental factors which in the process of evolution have formed selective pressures that restrict certain biological event within a defined time period can be classified as ultimate causes (Baker 1938;Thompson 1950). Most types of seasonal activity cannot begin as soon as the ultimate causes reach critical levels since a relatively long period is required for these causes to take effect, which is particularly evident in the case of reproduction (Bondarev et al 2018).…”

“…Враховуючи те, що риба є пойкілотермним організмом, у якого температура тіла та процеси, що відбуваються, залежать від температури навколишнього середовища (Sundby & Nakken, 2008;Bondarev et al, 2018), відбулася зміна дихальних процесів, інтенсивності живлення, поведінки, захисних реакцій організму (Novitskyi et al, 2015;Khrystenko et al, 2015).…”
