“…Therefore, RAPD-based data are not useful for estimating the chemical characteristics of C. polygonoides samples. Krofta et al (1998), Patzak et al (2010) also found difference between molecular and chemical data of wild hops (Humulus lupulus). High similarity in chemical parameters proposes least variable expression of the genes for these chemical parameters in extreme drought conditions.…”

“…We found that the bitter acid contents were significantly dependent on the phenophases of cones and were also influenced by the harvest year. The harvest year is dependent on the environmental factors (weather conditions, disease infections, pest damage, and plant ontogenesis) (Patzak et al 2010). We also found some significant differences in the contents between varieties.…”

“…The use of ESTs is a new trend for SSR markers in all main crops (Feingold et al 2005, Hu et al 2009). The possibility to use polymorphism in structural genes was reported by Patzak et al (2007), Bassil et al (2008) and Castro et al (2008). The increasing information about hop DNA gene sequences in GeneBank EST database provides possibility to look for new gene specific molecular markers.…”

“…Forty two pairs of primers flanking SSRs were designed using PrimerSelect module (LASERGENE system). Primer pairs were designed to define product sizes ranging from 100 to 500 bp in length ( (Patzak 2002, Patzak et al 2007) Additionally, a female individual of Humulus japonicus, from seed, were used for test of cross-species marker amplification. DNA was isolated from young leaves according to Patzak (2001).…”
