Práticas produtivas alinhadas à Economia Circular (EC) tem sido importante para a harmonia entre economia, meio ambiente e sociedade, principalmente quando evoluem para a otimização de recursos e mitigação de impactos ambientais. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi verificar se as práticas que estão sendo adotadas na produção de soja contribuem e estão alinhadas ao que é preconizado pela EC. A pesquisa se classificou como aplicada, qualitativa, exploratória e descritiva, sendo o estudo de caso o procedimento técnico utilizado. Participaram da entrevista 3 produtores de soja. Foram identificadas 18 práticas de EC na produção de soja que estão alinhadas ao que é preconizado pela EC, notadamente as de otimização, regeneração e virtualização, apontando para um caminho mais sustentável de produção e para uma possível transição de uma Economia Linear para uma EC. Production practices aligned with the Circular Economy (CE) have been important for the harmony between economy, environment and society, especially when they evolve towards the optimization of resources and mitigation of environmental impacts. The objective of this research was to verify if the practices that are being adopted in the production of soy contribute and are in line with what is recommended by the CE. The research was classified as applied, qualitative, exploratory and descriptive, with the case study being the technical procedure used. Three soybean producers participated in the interview. 18 CE practices were identified in soybean production that are in line with what is recommended by CE, notably those of optimization, regeneration and virtualization, pointing to a more sustainable path of production and a possible transition from a Linear Economy to an CE.

Various industries are gradually sifting away from the linear economy and toward the circular economy (CE), but its advancement is crawling far behind the environmental contamination by the food processing industry in developing countries. Hardly any research analyzes the CE performance of food processing small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (FPSMEs) in an emerging economy context. Hence, developing a CE performance evaluation framework is imperative to facilitate this transition. This research proposes a comprehensive framework for evaluating CE performance based on three real‐world cases of Indian FPSMEs. Initially, 15 essential criteria are shortlisted from the literature and refined by the experts. Afterward, data are collected through questionnaires administered to experts and structured interviews. Next, this research employs a multi‐criteria decision‐making (MCDM)–based approach, in which the Criteria Importance Through Inter‐criteria Correlation (CRITIC) method is used to compute the objective weights of criteria and the Vlse Kriterijumska Optimizacija Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method is used to determine the performances of FPSMEs and rank them accordingly. The results reveal that “investment in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” “use of renewable energy,” “increase in scrap recycling rate,” “total emission,” and “total water consumption” are the top five criteria for CE performance. Investment in CSR emerges as the most influential criterion for strategic corporate transformation, which blends the notions of CE and CSR as a feasible solution for designing circular business processes.

The circular economy has become a model that is able to respond, with rather high economic efficiency, to the challenges that a society faces. The principles of a circular economy do not expand rapidly, though. Our study deals with the key drivers for closed-loop cycle production, including innovation, investment, digitalization, new business ecosystems, and institutional framework. To quantify the effects of circular economy, we used three indicators: production and consumption waste; GRP energy intensity; GRP water intensity. Given these indicators, the regions of Russia were clustered. Further, the hypothesis was tested that the innovative activity of organizations, investment in fixed assets, and digital technologies used by business, are among the key drivers towards a circular economy. Since this research is an exploratory one, we apply the method of General Regression Models (GRM). Our findings did not confirm that the identified factors serve as the drivers for transitioning to a circular economy. We attribute the discrepancy between the results of literature review and empirical findings to the lack of reliable data, difficulties in measurement, the latent nature of related drivers, as well as the relatively short period of transition towards a more circular economy.
