“…These studies confirm patterns of human-nature interaction at a particular time (Feng et al 2019, Wu et al 2020b), but studies of human-nature interactions at long time scales and in stages are lacking. Their solution often requires holistic approaches, which can simultaneously incorporate human and natural components, combine modern and palaeoclimatic data (Li et al 2018), and reduce regional and cross-scale environmental impacts (Wei et al 2022), to construct long time series of human and nature evolutionary processes.
