Assessment of some locally produced Egyptian ceramic wall tiles

Abstract: Due to the fact that there are various types of wall tiles in the Egyptian market, of different qualities and prices, the aim of this research paper is to evaluate the properties and characteristics of tiles obtained from the local Egyptian market and attempt to identify the reasons for such differences. In other words, investigate the reasons why some tiles are more superior in quality than others. Test specimens were obtained from the local Egyptian market for fourteen factories. The mechanical properties (n… Show more

“…The increased quartz in beneficiated feldspar shows that the treated material will possess improved hardness, durability, resistance to chemical corrosion, control density, porosity, and shrinkage. The increased minerals will be expected to increase the fluxing potential of the material in ceramic tile production [16,20]. Iron impurity in the feldspar reduced by 52.1241% and its oxide by 58.9265%.…”

“…Qualitative identification of the phases present in the clay bricks by XRD patterns is relatively easy, although several factors makes complication for accurate identification of the phases present in them [13]. Phases developed during the firing step of the clay ceramic bodies are generally correlated with their physico-chemical and mechanical properties [14]. On the other hand, mineralogy study of the clay-based ceramic bodies is one of the widely accepted tools for the approximate determination of firing temperatures.…”
