Assessment of some heavy metals in the surrounding soils of an automobile battery factory in Ibadan, Nigeria

Abstract: /kg), respectively. The mean concentration of Pb was far above (four times higher than) the normal crustal average for soils while the other heavy metals were below the normal background level. The concentration of Pb is also the highest at the distance closest to the factory which indicate that Pb is the major heavy metal impacted on soils by the company which elevate the normal background level and thereby contaminate the soils and make it unfit for agricultural purposes as plant take up the leached metals a… Show more

(Grantz et al, 2003;Khalid et al, 2019;Khalid et al, 2020;Peter et al, 2016).…”

“…Indeed, the importance of trace elements in soil chemistry is becoming a global concern, particularly because soil is such an important component of both rural and urban environments. High levels of heavy metals in soils may not be due to anthropogenic effects, but rather to diagenetic causes 14 , 15 . Since metals from both natural and anthropogenic sources accumulate in soils, determining what fraction of the metal load comes from which source can be difficult.…”
