Assessment of Root Resorption and Root Shape by Periapical and Panoramic Radiographs: A Comparative Study

Abstract: Introduction:One of the common findings encountered by the clinician at the end of orthodontic treatment is the apical root resorption. Root resorption occurs to various degrees. A severe form of root resorption is characterized by shortening of root for more than 4 mm or more than one-third of the total tooth length. A low incidence rate of resorption is observed based on radiographic findings for the diagnosis of root resorption, panoramic radiography, and periapical radiography. Hence, we evaluated the accu… Show more

“…Orthodontic tooth movement further must not degrade the condition of the endodontically treated teeth and therefore a more physiologic treatment mechanics must be involved in treating a patient with RC treated anteriors,as in most cases, the anteriors are the ones to be retracted for a longer distance.A sequential treatment protocol must be followed to ensure appropriate remodelling of the bone and the teeth. 28 Previously our team had conducted numerous clinical trials [29][30][31][32][33][34][35] and lab animal studies [36][37][38][39][40] and in-vitro [41][42][43] studies over the past 5 years. Now we are focusing on epidemiological studies .The idea for this study stemmed from the current interest in our community. Patients, since the beginning must be informed about the status of the endodontically treated teeth and be updated about the same during the course of treatment.A patient consent pertaining to the status of endodontically treated teeth must be obtained before initiating the treatment.…”

“…As reabsorções radiculares externas representam complicações indesejadas que podem ocorrer após um trauma, transplante dentário ou movimento ortodôntico dos dentes [1][2][3] . A detecção da reabsorção é dependente diretamente de sua visualização por meio de exames por imagens, já que a mesma comumente não apresenta sinal e sintoma clínicos.…”
