Assessment of probability distributions and analysis of the minimum storage draft rate in the equatorial region

Abstract: Abstract. Rapid urbanization in the state of Selangor, Malaysia, has led to a change in the land use, physical properties of basins, vegetation cover and impermeable surface water. These changes have affected the pattern and processes of the hydrological cycle, resulting in the ability of the basin region to store water supply to decline. Reliability on water supply from river basins depends on their low-flow characteristics. The impacts of minimum storage on hydrological drought are yet to be incorporated and… Show more

“…Where the K‐S test returns a p ‐value $\ge $0.05, we considered that annual streamflow follows the assumed distribution. We used the method of maximum likelihood estimation to fit the distribution parameters, which is a powerful and efficient method accepted by many researchers (Ceola et al., 2010; Hasan et al., 2021; and Kousar et al., 2020) because it estimates parameters with the smallest sampling variance (Rao & Hamed, 2019).…”

“…As the SDI index relies on streamflow data, it is unsuitable for watersheds analyses with no streamflow station. Streamflow reconstruction is usually performed for streams with partial streamflow data (Hasan et al, 2021).…”

“…No universal definition of drought has been established due to the wide variability in water supply and demand worldwide [6,7]. There are four categories of drought in the literature: meteorological, agricultural, hydrological, and socioeconomic [8][9][10][11][12][13]. Drought damage is a serious issue in numerous countries around the world.…”
