“…21,22 Since the complexity of surgery and the severity of liver cirrhosis are well-known risk factors for mortality and morbidity in hepatectomy for HCC, various studies have been conducted to establish a new evaluation method of surgical indications. 5,9,23,24 Makuuchi’s criteria, 9 widely used in Japan, focused on the value of ICG-R15 as an effective predictor of the safety limit of the extent hepatectomy among patients with HCC. 25 With recent development of a high-quality three-dimensional volumetry 26 and portal vein embolization, 27 the conventional criteria have been expanded to safely achieve an appropriate extent of resection for cure.…”

“…Indeed, in our previous report, although the number of patients was small, we also showed the utility of the ALICE score for long‐term prognosis in non‐Asian patients. Recently, Russolillo et al . described the usefulness of the ALICE score in Italian HCC patients .…”

“…The albumin–bilirubin (ALBI) score was calculated using the following formula: 0.66 × log 10 (total bilirubin [μmol/L]) – 0.085 × (albumin [g/L]), and was graded as grade 1 (−2.60 or less), grade 2 (> −2.60 to −1.39), or grade 3 (> −1.39). The ALICE score was calculated as follows: 0.663 × log 10 (ICG R15 [%]) − 0.0718 × (albumin [g/dL]). The ALICE grade was determined according to the ALICE score as follows: grade 1, −2.20 or less; grade 2a, −2.20 to −1.88 or less; grade 2b, −1.88 to −1.39 or less, and grade 3, greater than −1.39.…”
