Assessment of Potential Negative Impact of the System of Factors on the Ship's Operational Condition During Transportation of Oversized and Heavy Cargoes

Abstract: The potential risks to vessels and crew in merchant shipping stem from human error, vulnerability to environmental influences, failure of shipboard systems and equipment. In case of transportation of heavy and oversized cargo, the preceding list can be expanded to include potential hazards directly associated with the cargo. This study identified a system of potential negative events in the transportation of oversized and heavy cargo under the influence of multiple factors. Negative events are divided into two… Show more

“…The ships are in poor technical condition, and some of them have not been maintained and overhauled for a long time. The overall quality of the crew needs to be improved, navigation skills and water safety regulations are lacking, and the navigational aids are seldom play used to best effect [33]. The characteristics of 105 maritime accidents were calculated, with a total frequency of 749 for all features, among which 'improper operation' appeared the most frequently (72 times).…”

“…Being related to true motion, these values help identify dangerous proximity situations and ensure safe navigation in confined waters. Vessel's operational condition and the negative factors system are reviewed in (Onyshchenko et al, 2021;Onyshchenko and Melnyk, 2020). (Statheros et al, 2008;Kuwata et al, 2013;Wang et al, 2019;Volyanskaya et al, 2017) outline a theoretical justification for an autonomous ship-based collision avoidance system.…”

“…The investigation on how time in port affects efficient ship operation in terms of operating costs (Moon et al, 2014), CO2 emissions and externalities. Developed a flexible framework for the estimation of the fuel consumption-speed curve for ships, which allows for speed-dependent elasticity with endogenous thresholds in paper Onyshchenko et al (2021).…”
