Two-component fibrous materials based on poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB, Tm = 160 °C) and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL, Tm = 60 °C) were successfully fabricated by dual-jet electrospinning of their separate spinning solutions. The desired alignment of the fibers that compose PHB/PCL mats was achieved by using three types of rotating collectors—drum (smooth), blade and grid. Additional fiber alignment in the direction of collector rotation was achieved by rotating at 2200 rpm. Moreover, the selected concentration of PCL spinning solution resulted in fibers with spindle-like defects along their length. Thus, “segment” sealing of the PHB (high-melting) fibers by the molten PCL (low-melting) fibers/defects sites was achieved after heating the PHB/PCL mats above the melting temperature (Tm) of PCL. The surface morphology, thermal behavior and mechanical properties of the PHB/PCL mats before and after thermal treatment were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and mechanical tests. The results indicated that regardless of the cutting direction of the specimens (0° or 90°), thermal treated PHB/PCL mats reveal enhanced mechanical properties. Therefore, this work provides an easily feasible route for the fabrication of electrospun PHB/PCL mats with tunable mechanical properties and improved performance.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates have attracted great interest as a suitable alternative to petrochemical based plastics due to their outstanding properties such as biodegradability and biocompatibility. However, the biggest problem in the production of microbial polyhydroxyalkanoates is low cost-effectiveness. In this study, polyhydroxyalkanoate production was carried out using waste substrates with local isolates. Culture conditions were optimized to increase the polyhydroxyalkanoate production potential. The produced polyhydroxyalkanoate was characterized by FTIR analyses, and its metabolic pathway was determined by real-time PCR. According to the results, the best polyhydroxyalkanoate producer bacteria was characterized as Pseudomonas neustonica NGB15. The optimal culture conditions were detected as 30 g/L banana peel powder, 25 °C temperature, pH 8, and 4-day incubation time. Under the optimized conditions, 3.34 g/L PHA production was achieved. As a result of FTIR analyses, major peaks were obtained at 1723, 1277, 1261, 1097, 1054, and 993 cm−1. These peaks represent that the type of produced polyhydroxyalkanoate was poly-β-hydroxybutyrate. According to gene expression profile of NGB15, it was determined that Pseudomonas neustonica NGB15 produces PHA using the de novo fatty acid synthesis metabolic pathway. In conclusion, poly-β-hydroxybutyrate production by Pseudomonas neustonica NGB15 using a low-cost fermentation medium has been shown to be biotechnologically promising.

Magnesium sulfat merupakan salah satu garam anorganik dengan rumus kimia MgSO4. Magnesium sulfat ini termasuk senyawa ionik karena terdapat ikatan antara logam magnesium dengan spesi non logam sulfat. Magnesium sulfat bersifat polar, bentuk anhidratnya sangat higroskopik dan mudah memiliki koordinasi dengan air. Umumnya magnesium sulfat terbentuk dalam formasi hidrat MgSO4.xH2O. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh sifat termodinamika molekul MgSO4 terhadap interaksi molekuler di dalam senyawa tersebut. Metode yang digunakan ialah pemodelan dengan aplikasi ChemOffice 15.0. Sedangkan untuk data mobilitas ion, konduktivitas, viskositas, kecepatan hanyut dengan menggunakan perhitungan dan data dari hasil review beberapa jurnal penelitian yang berkaitan dengan magnesium sulfat sesuai tahapan yang tertera pada fishbond. Magnesium sulfat memiliki sifat termokimia dalam fasa solid dengan ∆𝐻𝑓,∆𝐺𝑓,𝑆°, 𝑑𝑎𝑛 𝐶𝑝 pada tekanan 1 atm dan suhu 25°C yang masing-masing mempunyai nilai -1284,9 kJ/mol, -1170,7 kJ/mol, 91,6 J/molK dan 96,48 J/molK. Mobilitas ion Mg2+dan SO42- adalah 5,50.10-8m2s-1V-1 dan 8,29.108m2s-1V-1. Panas reaksi standar (ΔHr°) MgSO4 bernilai negatif maka reaksi bersifat eksotermis
