Assessment of Photoprotective, Antioxidant and Anti-Skin Cancer Activities of Leaf Extracts of Certain Medicinal Plants

Abstract: P LANT extracts acquiring antioxidant potential have recently been used for topical applications for significant protection against ultra violet (UV)-induced sunburn. The current study was conducted for screening Pluchea discoridis (Asteracea), Lawsonia inermis (Lythraceae), Aloe vera (Liliaceae) and Eucalyptus camaldulensis (Myrtaceae) for their photoprotective, antioxidant and anti-skin cancer properties.Multivariate data analysis based on spectrophotometric evaluation of major secondary metabolites was perf… Show more

“…In this study, we obtained comparatively high values of SPF (ranging between 23 and 37), even though we used a relatively low extract concentration (1.5 mg/L). At the same time, summarizing a comparison between different plant species, a maximum SPF of 24 was found [69].…”

“…Our work is the first to evaluate the anti-hyperpigmentation potential of a large set of grape varieties. Other efforts show different concentrations of mixed red vine leaf extract (RVLE) [45], a single variety using different extraction methods [46], or a comparison between plant species [69]. In addition, our work compares European and Israeli varieties originating from domestication efforts in two areas with very different eco-geographic conditions.…”

“…Plants are major sources for natural products and plant-based medicaments are the basis of many of the modern pharmaceuticals (Mohamed & Sorour, 2020;Behera et al, 2021). The selection of the right scientific technique and systemised approach to the biological analysis of plant products, based on their utilisation in traditional medicines, is the perfect development of new plant-originated drugs.…”
