“…Former applications used a fixed water level throughout the simulation period (Arnold et al, 1999;Chung et al, 2010;Flipo et al, 2007b;Gomez et al, 2003;Ke, 2014;Kim et al, 2008;Monteil, 2011;Perkins and Sophocleous, 1999;Ramireddygari et al, 2000;Thierion et al, 2012). Saleh et al (2011) showed that this methodology not only leads to biased assessments of streamaquifer exchanges, but also to biased estimates of the nearriver piezometric head distributions.…”

“…Juang and Lee (2000) used this technique to delineate heavy metal contaminated soils and Hu et al (2005) assessed the risk of nitrate contamination in the north China plain. Similar type of work was done by Flipo et al (2007) to assess the nitrate pollution in the Grand Morin aquifers, France. The indicator kriging was also used to model the spatial variability of arsenic in groundwater of southeast Michigan (Goovaerts et al 2005) and to evaluate arsenic contamination in the coastal aquifer of the Yun-Lin, Taiwan (Liu et al 2004).…”

“…A common approach to determine the origin of contamination is to identify the spatial relationships between groundwater pollution and environmental variables. Many recent studies were concerned with the identification of the sources of contamination either in soil, groundwater, rivers, streams, lakes, seas, or oceans (Flipo et al 2007;Masetti et al 2008;Laurent et al 2008;Maillard and Santos 2008), while other studies focused on assessing the impact of industrial and agricultural uses on groundwater quality (Leterme et al 2006;Milovanovic 2007).…”
