Assessment of nitrate concentrations in groundwater of Tal Abta SubDistrict, Iraq: Health risks and pollution evaluation

Thaer Zaid Ibrahim Al-Sallal,
Abdulazeez Y.T. Al-Saffawi

Abstract: The current study included estimating the concentration of nitrate ions in order to determine the health risks to humans and animals of the groundwater in Tal Abta sub-district, Hatra district within Nineveh governorate. The results indicated that the nitrate levels ranged between (12.31-12.71) ppm. Thus, 100% of the studied samples were within the permissible international standard limits for drinking. This relative increase in nitrates was reflected in the chronic daily intake (CDI) values and risk quotient … Show more

“…As for phosphate ions, they were within the permissible limits for drinking, as they did not exceed (0.319) mg. This decrease is attributed to its ability to adsorb on the surfaces of colloidal particles, as well as its deposition in the form of calcium phosphate, as in the equation indicated by (QASEEM et al, 2022;AL-SALLAL, 2023):…”
