Assessment of myocardial partition coefficient of gadolinium (λ) in dilated cardiomyopathy and its impact on segmental and global systolic function

Abstract: In DCM, λ correlates independently with circumferential strain and ejection fraction, suggesting that there is a link between λ and systolic function.

“…We did not assess the end-systolic pressure volume relationship, a load insensitive measure of contractile performance. Our study is consistent with several imaging studies which report an inverse correlation between the extent of myocardial fibrosis and indices systolic performance, although this remains controversial (Donekal et al, 2014; Jacquier et al, 2014; Tandon et al, 2015). Mechanistically it has been proposed this observation could be explained by several pathophysiologic mechanisms.…”

“…In previous reports (2)(3)(4), the presence of LGE correlated with a cardiac event and arrhythmia; however, no correlation with cardiac function has been shown (42). Longer native T1 in patients with DCM than in control subjects (34), as well as no enhancement and higher contrast material partition coefficients in patients with DCM than in control subjects (43), have been reported (Fig 7).…”
