Assessment of Marine Pollution at Bay of Oran, Algeria

Abstract: This work aims to the assessment of marine pollution in the Bay of Oran, including zinc, copper, iron and lead. These toxic elements represent a real danger to living organisms. Many factors have increased the marine pollution and marine traffic including the transport of hydrocarbons, industrial and domestic discharges and fishing activities, etc. This study shows essentially the bioconcentration of heavy metals in the species Mytilus galloprovincialis, these filter bivalves have a broad geographical distribu… Show more

“…Intense agricultural activities in this area contribute to a more pronounced deterioration of the seawater quality. Urban and industrial (in particular petrochemicals) equipment for purification purposes does not exist in this area 10 . Thus, the particles exported and accumulated in the coastal sediments are accurate anthropic pressure gauges in this kind of environment 9 .…”

“…Abbott & Ionescu (1967) assessed water quality for the southern coastal edge (SCF) of the Inner Plata River based on MIKE 21 model to simulate the evolution of water quality parameters. Baghdad et al (2015) assessed marine pollution in the Gulf of Oran with pollution parameters such as zinc, copper, iron, and lead. Serviere-Zaragoza et al (2021) accessed the effect of cadmium, lead, copper, zinc, and Iron concentration patterns in three marine fish species from two different mining sites inside the Gulf of California, Mexico.…”
