Assessment of Land Resources of the Zhambyl Region as the Basis of Recreation Development and Food Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Abstract: The article presents the scientific results of a study for the assessment of agricultural land in Zhambyl region of the Republic of Kazakhstan based on field studies in 2020-2021 and modern GIS technologies. The purpose of the study of the article is a comprehensive assessment of land resources used for agricultural production in Zhambyl region, identifying the prevailing areas of agricultural land, irrigated and rainfed pastures by administrative districts of the region. In the course of the scientific study,… Show more

“…One of the important reserves for increasing crop yields is irrigated land . To increase irrigated land productivity, intensive use of irrigated arable land by obtaining two or three crops per year in the same field and increasing irrigated land up to three million hectares by 2030 are of particular importance [Aldazhanova et al, 2022]. Climatic resources are one of the main natural factors that determine conditions for agricultural development.…”

“…Precipitation events, especially following extreme drought, can sharply alter soil moisture, which plays a vital role in soil biological activity (Banerjee et al, 2016;Slessarev et al, 2021) and agricultural food production. Agricultural food products (Hou et al, 2022) remain in perpetual demand because of the increasing population, rapid urbanization and urban growth, declining productivity of the agricultural land, and climate change (Aldazhanova et al, 2022). Drought resilient vegetation species in areas with increasing air temperature and precipitation deficiency are outcompeting other species in natural vegetation such as grasslands, and being more frequently sown in arable lands (Móricz et al, 2021).…”

“…Under conditions of global climate change, forecasting of natural moisture availability and development trends of this process on a space-time scale in terms of natural zones and administrative units is used for leveling a negative impact of climatic indices on the territorial organization of agricultural natural management (Viana et al, 2022;Aldazhanova, 2022). Improving the prediction of natural moisture forecast in response to rainfall allows water resource managers to optimize irrigation schedules, plant water consumption and costs (Basak et al, 2022;Tursunova, 2022).…”
