Background/Aim: The coronavirus pandemic, which has affected the world, has also affected living habits, oral care and dental treatments. In this study, demographic characteristics, nutrition and lifestyle habits, systemic diseases, oral care and dental problems and solutions of adult individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic were investigated. Material and Methods: A questionnaire about demographic information and pandemic was distributed to 303 people aged between 18-75. Oral care was recorded using the 'Simplified Oral Hygiene Index'. In the examination of the categorical variables of the findings, Pearson Chi-Square test was used when the assumption of sample size (n>5) was met, and Fisher's Exact test was used when it was not. IBM SPSS Statistics 25 program was used in the statistical analysis. Results: It has been observed that the importance given to oral care and health is higher in young, single, educated and female participants, and oral care increased with anxiety level. It was observed that the participants most frequently preferred to go to the dentist if all other methods were unsuccessful (p<0.05). Conclusions: The pandemic period has affected oral health and care habits. It is thought that knowledge has an important role in increasing oral health in infectious diseases.

Aim: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, poses a great risk of transmission throughout society, especially among healthcare workers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge levels of dentists and healthcare personnel regarding the changes in dental practice that had occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: An online questionnaire was sent to dentists and health personnel working in Diyarbakır, Turkey within the period from December 30, 2021 to January 6, 2022, using WhatsApp, e-mail, and special social platforms. The questionnaire was designed to identify the sociodemographic characteristics of the respondents and their awareness of new clinical procedures and of the changes in dental practice that had occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data obtained from 239 dentists and healthcare personnel in Diyarbakır [118 (49.4%) female and 121 (50.6%) male; 177 dentists and 62 healthcare personnel] were evaluated. Results: Of the dentist participants, 12.7% reported that they did not perform active dental treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic due to their concerns about being infected by their patients with COVID-19 or their existing comorbidities (chronic diseases). Of the participants, 24.6% had acquired COVID-19. Most of the participants used personal protective equipment when conducting all types of dental procedures, including examinations. Conclusion: Dentists and healthcare personnel play an important role in controlling COVID-19 infection. It is very important to be aware of the possible transmission routes of COVID-19 in clinical applications, to use protective equipment during treatments, and to pay attention to personal hygiene. Amaç: COVID-19 salgını toplumların hem beden hem de ruh sağlığı üzerinde olumsuz etkilere neden olmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, pandemi sürecinde diş hekimine başvuran hastaların COVID-19 korku düzeyi ve diş sağlığı bilgisi ile sağlık kaygısı ilişkisini incelemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma için veriler 2021 yılı Mart ayında Afyonkarahisar Ağız ve Diş Sağlığı Merkezi’ne başvuran 241 hastaya uygulanan anket ile toplanmıştır. Veriler T-testi, ANOVA ve Pearson korelasyon testi ile analiz edildi. İstatistiksel olarak p 0.05). Sonuçlara göre kadınların COVID-19 korkusu, sağlık anksiyetesi ve ağız ve diş sağlığı konusundaki bilgileri erkeklere göre daha yüksekti. Sonuç: Pandeminin kadınları daha fazla etkilediği bu sürecin toplumun bir kesiminde diş sağlığının devam ettirilmesi konusunda endişeye yol açtığı gözlenmiştir. Ağız diş sağlığı bilgi düzeyinin COVID-19 korku seviyesini etkileyebildiği görülmektedir.
